By snatching the victory of the XVIIth Trophée Clairefontaine des Champions de Voile over Jérémie Beyou in the ninth and last regatta sailed on the nautical stadium of La Trinité-sur-Mer, Franck Cammas puts down his name for the second time on the record of this nautical show, the first success being in 2000 in the nautical stadium of the Cap d'Agde. Jérémie Beyou, for his first participation, finishes second in front of Loïck Peyron and New Zealander Mike Sanderson, new on the event as well.

This seventeenth Trophée Clairefontaine, exclusively sailed by oceanic racers, was full of surprises, among which the excellent demonstration, of Jérémie Beyou, competing on a catamaran for the first time. Regarding the Warm up Rhodia, i.e. eight training legs sailed in two hours in the nautical stadium of La Trinité, Pascal Bidégorry and Jean-Pierre Dick were quite impressive. Pascal won the fist leg and stayed quite consistent in the other legs and Jean-Pierre Dick won two Runs in a row. However, Loïck Peyron is the great winner of the Warm up Rhodia in front of Pascal Bidégorry and Franck Cammas.

Saturday morning, the first Raid sailed in the Bay of Quiberon, was easily won by Franck Cammas who outdistanced the followers among which Vincent Riou and Mike Sanderson, respectively second and third. In the second Raid, Mike Sanderson showed all his talent with an audacious but very well executed option. The inspired Kiwi triumphed in front of Jérémie Beyou and Franck Cammas. The other surprise of the morning was the counter-performances of Loïck Peyron (7th and 5th) and Michel Desjoyeaux (8th and 7th). However, the two record-holders with regards to the number of victories of the Trophée Clairefontaine were back on track beginning of the afternoon. Loïck Peyron outclassed the followers and won the leg in front of Michel Desjoyeaux, and Franck Cammas. Very consistent, Franck Cammas won the Challenge Quo Vadis overall ranking of the three Raids on Saturday.

Regarding the six Runs - one in late afternoon Saturday and five on Sunday from 2.00pm to 4.00pm - Jérémie Beyou was the most skilful and was victorious three times. Franck Cammas won two legs. Loïck Peyron was the only sailor who managed once to escape the domination of the two others.

The ninth and last regatta of the Trophée Clairefontaine was decisive regarding the overall victory. Jérémie Beyou was then the virtually leading Franck Cammas. When rounding a buoy, Jérémie Beyou hoisted his spinnaker, jibed and entered a fluctuating breeze. Franck Cammas chose instead the direct route with unbroken squalls. He passed Jérémie Beyou, Vincent Riou, and Pascal Bidégorry thus leaving enough competitors between him and Jérémie Beyou to glean the two precious leading points ensuring him the final victory. A real goldsmith job carried out with Stève Ravussin and Pierre Pennec.

Overall ranking (nine legs): 1- Franck Cammas, 60 pts (1, 3, 3, 1, 7, 3, 7, 2, 1); 2- Jérémie Beyou, 58 pts (6, 2, 6, 5, 1, 1, 4, 1, 2); 3- Loïck Peyron, 52 pts (7, 5, 1, 2, 2, 4, 1, 7, 6); 4- Mike Sanderson (New Zealand), 41 pts (3, 1, 5, 3, 4, 8, 5, 8, 5); 5- Jean-Pierre Dick, 39 pts (5, 4, 7, 6, 8, 2, 2, 3, 7); 6- Pascal Bidégorry, 37 pts (4, 6, 4, 7, 3, 7, 6, 6, 3); 7- Vincent Riou, 35 pts (2, 8, 8, 8, 5, 5, 3, 5, 4); 8- Michel Desjoyeaux, 29 pts (8, 7, 2, 4, 6, 6, 8, 4, 8).
